Die cast zinc is one of the most widely used parts of die casting alloys, it offers high precision as well as low tooling costs. Zinc die casting has a broad range of advantages and can be applied in various places due to its excellent performance and quality.

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of zinc casting parts, and we also list the applications suitable for them.

Advantages:

1. Zinc die casting parts have greater relative weight.

2. Zinc die casting precise parts have complex shapes, thinner wall and smooth surface.

3. Zinc die casting parts have good precision, high mechanical strength, glossy and compact surface. Small or no cuttings occurs during machining process.

4. Zinc die casting parts have several surface treatments: electro-plating, spraying, painting, polishing, grinding and etc.
5. Zinc alloy has no iron absorption, no profiling corrosion, no mold adherence when melting and casting.
6. Zinc die casting parts have good mechanical properties and abrasion performance.

7. A low melting point around 385 allows easy shaping of zinc alloy die casting.

Disadvantages:

1. Bad corrosion resistance.

When the incidental elements of lead, cadmium and tin which have very low solubility in zinc alloy exceed standards, the zinc alloy casting parts will suffer volume swell, ductility decrease and even worse: they can be broken. Intergranular electrochemical corrosion causes the aging and deformation of zinc alloy die casting parts.

2. Zinc alloy die casting parts are not allowed to be used both in high temperature and low temperature (below 0).

In high temperature, the tensile strength of zine alloy die casting part will decline remarkably and in low temperature impact properties and will have a great fall off.

The Application of Zinc Die Casting

For the spare parts with complex geometry, zinc die casting process is used based on several advantages, such as once-molded pattern, simple machining technology, high production efficiency and material saving. At the meantime, Zinc alloy die casting has a widespread application in national defense, traffic, electronics, construction, daily hardware and especially automotive industry. Many auto spare parts are made by zinc die casting, for example, fuel pump body, wiper parts, tachometer frame, hydraulic brake valve body parts, steering wheel parts, door and window handle, holder bracket, car horns, heater, motormeter and etc..
