Die casting is not strange for us, it is widely used in many industries, but some of professional knowledge of die casting process still need our deep study, so as to have a better understanding on die casting, such as the methods of die casting quality testing.
This article will link to the previous article: How To Check the Quality of Die Castings? Part I, and continue to introduce you to the quality testingmethods of die casting.
It may seems very easy to check the surface quality of the die casting parts, but it is relatively much harder to make internal quality inspection.
For the inner quality of diecast parts, there are five inspection methods:
1. Destructive inspection
A method of destroying the die casting and testing its internal defects. The specific operation is to cut the body of the sample casting part, or to remove some layers of the surface of alloy die casting, so as to reveal the surface with defect, and then the visual inspection method can be used to view the defects.
2. Metallographic examination
Usually by checking microstructure of the die-casting alloy, the performance of the casting defects can be determined. This is a kind of good and effective identification in the condition of difficult judgment for the properties of casting defects.
3. Ultrasonic inspection
It is a nondestructive testing method. The defect was founded by measuring the degree of ultrasonic reflection coming back from the ultrasonic side or by measuring the attenuation of the opposite ultrasound. The advantages are high sensitivity, no harm to human body. But there are some limitations for it requires the casting part with not too complicated shape, smooth surface and flatness.
4. X-ray nondestructive inspection method
It is a nondestructive flaw detection method that quickly and intuitively finds the defects in the die casting. By receiving the amplifying device or X-ray film, the internal defect shape, size and position of the casting are directly viewed, but the protection measures should be taken when using this method.
5. Confined compression test: This method check the density of metal casting parts. A pressurized water or compressed air is pressed into the sealed casting cavity, if there are penetrating cracks, cold insulation, porosity and shrinkage defects, the air or water will come out from the casting walls, so we can find the existence of the defect location. Generally, the test pressure will exceed 30% to 50% of the casting pressure during the test.
Sieg-Huao is equipped with all these advanced inspection devices and professional quality check operators. Both from the surface and the internal structure we can supply you the qualified die casting parts including aluminum alloy die casting, zinc alloy die casting and magnesium alloy die casting.
