When you choose the appropriate casting process for the aluminum alloy castings, whether you are hesitating about which process to choose? This article will tell you the differences between the aluminum alloy die casting and gravity casting, and their respective characteristics.

Aluminum alloy is widely used in automobile manufacturing, aerospace, ship and other fields due to its good plasticity, corrosion and light weight. At present, the casting method of aluminum alloy is divided into pressure die casting and gravity casting.

Today we will talk about the die casting process and gravity casting process.

Aluminum alloy die casting refers to the injection molding process under the action of other external forces (excluding gravity). The pressure die casting is divided into high pressure die casting and low pressure die casting.

The characteristics of aluminum die casting are as below:

1. Good finish surface which generally can reach Ra6.3 and even Ra1.6.

2. Heat treatment is not possible.

3. High air tightness, high casting strength and surface hardness, but low elongation.

4. High mold cost and short service life.

5. High production efficiency.

6. Thin wall parts can be made.

7. Small machining allowance.

Aluminum alloy gravity casting refers to the process of casting the aluminum solution under the weight of the earth. Gravity casting is divided into the following categories: sand casting, metal casting (steel mold) casting, EPC casting, etc..

In aluminum alloy gravity casting, the liquid aluminum alloy is generally poured into the gate by hand, and it is filled with the cavity under the self - weight of the metal fluid. The process flow generally include aluminum liquid's melting, material filling, exhausting, cooling, mold opening, cleaning, heat treatment and processing.

The characteristics of aluminum alloy gravity casting are as below:

1. Finish surface is not as good as die casting

2. It is prone to pit after blasting.

3. Less internal porosity of aluminum casting, heat treatment can be performed.

4. Low mold cost, long service life.

5. The production efficiency is low, thus increasing the production cost.

6. The aluminum gravity casting process is simple, not suitable for thin - walled parts.

When making decision to choose suitable metal casting process, the key factor is the wall thickness of the workpiece. If wall thickness is more than 8mm, die casting is not a good choice because it will cause a lot of holes inside the wall. For the castings with wall thinner than 8mm, die casting is the best selection.

When mentioning die casting, Sieg-Huao is your best selection, we are a leading China die casting manufacturer, accept the customization of aluminum alloy die casting parts. Please contact us if you have die casting demands and please believe that we will not let you down.
