What are the common materials in aluminum alloy die casting?

The aluminum alloy material in aluminum alloy die casting is mainly divided into three kinds: aluminum silicon alloy, aluminum silicon copper alloy and aluminum magnesium alloy.

Aluminum silicon alloy mainly includes YL102 (ADC1, A413.0, etc.), YL104 (ADC3, A360);

Aluminum silicon copper alloy mainly includes YL112 (A380, ADC10, etc.), YL113 (3830), YL117 (B390, ADC14) ADC12, etc.;

Aluminum magnesium alloy mainly includes 302 (5180, ADC5,) ADC6, etc..

For aluminum silicon alloy and aluminum silicon copper alloy, as you can see from its name, in addition to aluminum, silicon and copper are the main components. Normally, the silicon content between 6 - 12% is mainly to improve the liquid fluidity of the alloy. The copper content is only secondary, mainly to enhance strength and tensile strength. The iron content is usually between 0.7-1.2%, and within this ratio, the ejection effect of the die casting workpiece is the best. It can be seen from its composition that such alloys are not possible to oxidise.

At present, commonly used materials in aluminum alloy die casting process are A380, A360, A390, adc-1, adc-12 and etc.. ADC12 equivalent to American ASTM standard A383 is widely used in Japan, while A380 equivalent to Japanese standard ADC10 is widely used in America. The big difference between ADC12 and A380 is the Si content and Cu content also has small difference.

ADC12 and ADC6 are most commonly used in China aluminum alloy die casting. The main difference between the two materials is that the content of Si, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ni and Sn of ADC12 is higher than that of ADC6, while the content of Mg is lower than that of ADC6. ADC 12 is better in die casting and machining properties, but is inferior to ADC6 in terms of corrosion resistance.
