As one of the three factors of die casting process-die casting material, die casting mould and die casting machine, die casting mould is especially important which determines the quality of die casting parts. But do you know what factors influence the performance and lifetime of die casting moulds?


Die casting is characterized by high production efficiency, short production process, high finish and strength of casting, low machining allowance and saving of metal materials.

Generally speaking, the factors that influence the performance and service life of die casting include mould material, mould design and manufacture, surface treatment technology and specific usage of die.


Mould design and manufacture:

Reasonable die design is an important precondition to extend the service life of die casting mould. Reasonable wall thickness and cooling channel design can guarantee the strength and heat balance of the mould. Special attention should be paid to the parts with concentrated stress and large abrasion in die design. The accuracy of the optional parts shall be reasonable: excessive clearance may lead to poor heat conduction and thermal fatigue damage; Small clearance creates a compressive force and a tensile stress. Internal stress is easily generated during that manufacture of the mold, and the internal stress has a great influence on the life of the mold.

Therefore, the internal stress should be avoided and eliminated as soon as possible in the process of mould manufacturing. For example, after roughing, stress relief and tempering can be carried out in time.

 

Mold surface treatment technology:

The performance and life of die - casting die can be greatly improved by strict and reasonable technical surface treatment of die - casting dies. Die casting die surface treatment technology can be divided into three categories: traditional heat treatment process improvement technology; Surface modification technology, such as surface laser treatment technology; Coating technology.

 

Use of the mould:

Selection of a proper die casting process and maintenance is critical to the life of the mold. A large part of mold damage is caused by improper use and lack of scientific maintenance.

First of all, special attention should be paid to the temperature control of the mould. Preheat the mould before production, keep the proper temperature range during production, and prevent the surface crack or even crack caused by excessive temperature gradient in the inner and outer layers of the cavity. Secondly, high quality die casting mould remover is selected with moderate thickness, thin and even coating mould surface, which plays an important role in protecting mould material. Finally, in order to reduce the accumulation of thermal stress and avoid the cracking of die casting mould, tempering and other techniques should be used regularly to eliminate thermal stress.

 

Conclusion:

Die casting mould material, mould design and manufacturing, mold surface treatment technology and mould usage all comprehensively influence die performance and service life. Combining these factors and taking effective measures can effectively improve the performance of die casting mould and prolong the service life of die casting mould.
